Excel Data Table too slow for your scenarios?
WorkbookAPI checks your Excel scenario model in the browser for free, with a hosted API for bulk runs of its formulas for sensitivity or Monte Carlo analysis. Waiting for the workbook blocks the analysis.
Check your workbook — free, it never leaves your browser
One calculation works. Repeating it takes too long.
An analyst, actuary, or finance team may need many combinations of assumptions. A what-if Data Table or VBA loop repeats the same model. Changing the assumptions starts the wait again.
Why the usual options hurt
Rewriting the model creates another set of formulas to maintain. Running Excel on a server adds job management. Copying inputs and outputs by hand makes a large sensitivity run hard to repeat.
How it works with WorkbookAPI
Start with the workbook's formula-based calculation, separate from the Data Table or VBA loop. Drop the workbook into the free browser check.
See which formulas compute exactly like Excel for the saved inputs. Recalculate and save in Excel before checking.
The hosted API and bulk scenarios are live. After the browser check, upload your workbook separately to the server. Start free trial or read the API docs. Shareable and embeddable web forms stay on the home-page waitlist.
The bulk scenario API recalculates the model for each input set. It does not execute the existing Data Table or VBA loop. The analyst keeps the model in Excel. Upload a new workbook version to update the scenario calculation.
Illustration: a margin sensitivity grid
An analyst could send explicit assumption pairs instead of building a what-if Data Table.
- Inputs: Volume cases of 800, 1,000, and 1,200 units, crossed with cost increases of 0%, 5%, and 10%.
- Outputs: Nine gross-margin results, one for each volume and cost pair.
For Monte Carlo, supply sampled assumptions as input sets. Sampling and analysis are separate from the bulk scenario API.
What is not supported
Macros/VBA, Power Query, pivot tables, what-if data tables, and links to other workbooks are not supported. The report flags them.
FAQ
Will WorkbookAPI run my existing what-if Data Table?
No. What-if data tables are unsupported and flagged in the report. The bulk scenario API recalculates the underlying formulas for explicit input sets.
Can I use it for Monte Carlo simulation?
Bulk calculation is available through the hosted API. Supply sampled input sets and analyze the returned outputs. The browser check compares the workbook's saved input case.
Will it run my VBA scenario loop faster?
No. Macros and VBA are not executed. Check the formula-based model separately. The bulk scenario API replaces repeated input changes; it does not run the loop.
Does my scenario workbook leave my browser during the check?
No. The workbook never leaves your browser during the check. Only anonymous totals are counted, never values, formulas, or file names.
